‘Forest Grove Uncorked’ Announced for August 15
New summer event to celebrate local wine, food microbrews and music
Forest Grove, June 17 2009 – Downtown Forest Grove organizers are developing a new summer event that they hope will become an annual tradition. The event entitled ‘Forest Grove Uncorked’ presented by the Forest Grove City Club will be held on Saturday, August 15th from 4-9 pm. The setting for the event is on historic Main Street, next to Pacific University. It will provide a venue to showcase local talents in the food and beverage industry as well as local music artists.
Forest Grove Uncorked will include area wines from Washington County and along the Sip 47 wine trail into northern Yamhill county, local micro-brewers, and prepared foods from area restaurants and caterers. Forest Grove Uncorked will also feature live music, a raffle and awards honoring the top food, beer and wine. Up to twenty five vendors are expected to be selling their products. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Forest Grove Family Resource Center.
The event will be in conjunction with Hulaman, Oregon’s Hawaiian- style triathlon and half marathon event. A field of 500 is expected to compete in the August 16th event that will end in downtown Forest Grove following the 1.2 mile swim at Henry Hagg Lake, a challenging 56 mile bike ride through Washington County wine country and a 13.1 mile run through Forest Grove farm land. On Saturday, August 15th there will be a Hula Kids Triathlon on the campus of Pacific University.
"We are excited to share the area’s growing selection of award-winning quality wine" according to Scott Behren, owner of a Forest Grove wine shop and one of the organizers, "The dining selection is growing with new downtown eateries offering regional foods such as Thai, British, Middle Eastern, Chinese, authentic Italian coffee and desserts, in addition to our American classics" he added. Live music performances include Feppos Trio and Andy Harrison Band.
The cost for this 21 years and older charity fundraiser is $10 per person and includes a logo wine glass. Attendees can then purchase wine, beer and food of their choice. Sponsors to date are Forest Grove Light & Power, John L. Scott Market Center, CM & Sons, Rick & Debbie Skaggs, Tip Top Spa & Boutique, Wine Behren, Custom care Physical Therapy & Sundial Specialty Baking & Events.
Forest Grove Uncorked will build on ongoing Forest Grove tourism and wine-related events such as winemaker’s dinners, First Wednesday and the Main Course, which will return in 2010. It also contributes to the city’s branding campaign "Forest Grove-Where Oregon Pinot was Born".
Additional restaurants, caterers, beer brewers and wineries from western Washington or northern Yamhill county, including Hillsboro, who are interested in participating can contact Scott at (503) 359-1967 or Dawn at (503) 413-9017 or www.fgcityclub.com For information on Hulaman go to www.athleteslounge.com
