Wine Tastings

Hey wine lovers,

Tomorrow is Friday so you all know what that means. Yep. Wine Tasting at The Wine Behren.

Friday Night we have Wines from Herdade do Esporão, Alentejo, Portugal

Alandra White: Very bright modern herby edge to the nose. Herby and fresh on the palate, this is interesting, modern stuff. Successful. Very good $10.00

Reserva White :Very attractive full, nutty nose with some well integrated oak. Attractive nutty palate is quite rich and ripe with a coconutty edge. Very attractive stuff, if a bit oaky. $14.00

Aragones (Tempranillo): The resultant Aragonês is a rich, full bodied wine with strong varietal character. It shows complex fruit and spicy oak flavours on the palate, with good depth and a firm tannic structure. $17.00

Touriga Nacional: Enticing nose of ripe, sweet plummy blackberry and raspberry fruit, with some spicy oak notes. Palate is concentrated with lots of pure, sweet blackberry and raspberry fruit, together with high acidity and some more spicy oak. Quite tannic at the moment, this is a forward, attractive wine that should age well. $17.00

Reserva Red: Made with Trincadeira, Aragonês and Cabernet Sauvignon, with 20 yr old vines, this is the flagship wine of the company, matured in new American oak barrels for 12 months, followed by 12 months in bottle. $19.00

Private Selection: Made with Alicante Bouchet and Aragonês, 30 yr old vines, this top red wine is matured in new French oak for 18 months, followed by 12 months in bottle. $51.00

Saturday Night, The Wine Behren is hosting North Berkeley Imports. Chris will be pouring Italian wines.

2003 Colleceto Brunello di Montalcino $55.00

Hello there fellow vinophiles,

How's it drinking? Just made that up, I think I like it. You know, say you just popped that special bottle you've been saving, hence.......How's it drinking? Ya,................ I like it. Anyways. Moving on.

We, well I, have a busy week here at The Wine Behren but I am so looking forward to it. I want to start off by welcoming Pacific University Graduate and Professional Program as they have a little soiree here this evening.

As you all know Wednesday night is our weekly Farmers Market. So come on down and get some local produce, flowers, berries, munchies, and don't forget wine. Basically what ever you need you can find here Wednesday nights. Market starts at 4. Wine tasting at The Wine Behren starts at 5. Live music here at The Wine Behren every Wednesday night from 6-8pm. (except 1st Wednesdays)

Thursday is the day after Wednesday, for those of you who didn't know or remember. But TJ, it's just a little reminder for you. 6-8 pm.

Friday night my long lost friend/wine distributor Andy, is back and in full force as he is working for a new distributor, Vinum and he is pouring Portuguese wines. All wines will be from one Winery, Esporao. He will have 2 whites, and 4 reds. All awesome wines and five of them are under $20.00. The sixth wine is a special treat for all of my fellow wine lovers, it is Esporao's Private Selection Reserve (a blend of Alicante Bouchet / Aragonês / Syrah) This is a big wine with aromas of mixed berry fruits, spice, toast and smoky oak. This one comes in at $51.00.

This week I have a special Saturday Night tasting. I was introduced to a knew distributor a while back and he wished to come out and give us a taste. Chris Poulos with North Berkeley Imports will be here Saturday night and he will be pouring Italian wines. I do not have the specifics as to what region or what wines Chris will be pouring but you all know how I love Italian wines so it won't matter. This is also from 5-8 and there will be a $5.00 dollar tasting fee.

I am hosting my second Wine Maker Dinner August 9th from 7-10pm. Chris Berg, wine maker for Roots will be our featured wine maker. Kathy Murray and Dawn Houser are preparing the 5 course meal. Tickets are $65.00. 40 seats available, so if you wish to go please call me at 503-359-1967. Dinner is a private residence in Forest Gale Heights. Dinner is outside with live music. Thanks.

As for Sunday, can you say Siesta?
